In Class 5A of Iowa high school football, these are some of the top quarterbacks set to hit the gridiron in 2025. Players are listed in alphabetical order:
TOP IOWA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CLASS 5A QUARTERBACKS
Beckett Bakker, Waukee, Senior
A soon-to-be four-year starter for the Warriors, Beckett racked up 19 touchdown passes against just two interceptions for almost 1,600 yards. He completed nearly 69 percent of his throws while running for another 472 and four scores.
Vernon Benda, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Senior
Benda came out of nowhere to have a big junior campaign, as he threw for 20 touchdowns and 1,840 yards on the year.

Cameron Cantonwine, Ames, Senior
Cantonwine is the focus of the offense for the Little Cyclones. He had over 1,800 yards in the air with 17 touchdowns as a junior, adding 615 yards and eight scores with his legs.
Drake DeGroote, West Des Moines Valley, Senior
DeGroote helped the Tigers reach the championship game, throwing for over 1,800 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 67 percent of his passes. He averaged over 13 yards per completion and showed off his legs with 212 yards and four TDs.
Mack Heitland, Waukee Northwest, Junior
Coming off a sophomore season in which he had almost 1,900 yards passing and 28 touchdowns, Heitland will look to duplicate things. He completed just under 75 percent of his passes on the year.

Cal Jepsen, Sioux City East, Senior
Jepsen brings plenty of experience to the field and an ability to get the ball into the end zone. He threw for 2,373 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 64 percent of his passes.
Reece Rettig, Iowa City Liberty, Senior
Rettig put up incredible numbers last year while leading the Lightning to the state semifinals. He threw for 32 touchdowns with just three interceptions among his 253 attempts. He completed 73 percent with 2,719 yards and a quarterback rating of 202.8, rushing for another 482 yards and six touchdowns.
