Believe it or not, the college basketball season is upon us just next month. After what has felt like an eternity of offseason for the Iowa Hawkeyes, who are an entirely revamped and revitalized program, tipoff is not far for fans to get excited about.
Ben McCollum is now the new head coach after coming over from Drake, where was was massively successful, leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament last year. Joining him and infusing an immense amount of talent into the lineup is former Drake point guard Bennett Stirtz.

A talent that just keeps getting better every year, Bennett Stirtz has found himself ranked among the top point guards in all of college basketball. Sports Illustrated has ranked Stirtz as the No. 3 point guard in the country.
Bennett Stirtz, Iowa
Stirtz willed Drake to 31 wins and an NCAA tournament victory in his first year at the Division I level, rarely leaving the floor and taking on a massive offensive role in Ben McCollum’s intricate system. He’s a master in ball screens, with an advanced floater game that allows him to score at all three levels and elite decision-making skills to help others get involved. If he can lift Iowa into the Big Ten’s top tier, there may not be a more valuable player in the sport. – Kevin Sweeney, Sports Illustrated
Last year at Drake, Stirtz averaged 19.2 points per game to go with 5.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds. He shot 49.8% from the field overall and a strong 39.5% from three-point range.
His first action for the Iowa Hawkeyes will be on Tuesday, November 4, when they host Robert Morris at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
