What a difference a few weeks make.
Marcus Zelee, a 6-foot-3 guard who committed to Iowa State basketball on July 2, reconsidered his college decision and decommitted from the Cyclones on July 22. He announced his choice on social media.

Zelee, a native of Austin, Texas, is a three-star guard according to 247 Sports and On3.com. The athletic, two-way guard averaged 16.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.5 steals per game at Brentwood Christian Academy last winter. He will be playing at Cedar Ridge High School this year.

Zelee’s commitment to Iowa State originally came quickly. He picked the Cyclones just days after a visit and offer from head coach T.J. Otzelberger and his staff. With his recruitment open once again, Zelee had previous offers from Arizona State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and nearby Drake.

Iowa State still has two commits in the class of 2026: three-star guard Yusef Gray Jr., the top-rated recruit in his class from the state of Wisconsin and four-star guard Christian Wiggins, Minnesota’s No. 1-ranked recruit per 247 Sports.
