After being stuck in neutral at No. 14 in the past three USA TODAY Sports womenâs basketball coaches polls, Iowa women’s basketball is back on the upward trajectory in the Jan. 13 edition.
Following road wins at Northwestern and Indiana, the Hawkeyes climbed one spot to No. 13 nationally in the newest USA TODAY Sports womenâs basketball coaches poll.

Iowa enjoyed a big second-half response in its 56-53 comeback win over Indiana. The Hawkeyes, who trailed by as many as 16 points, authored their largest comeback win since 2022. Iowa was led by a trio of double-figure scorers in Chit-Chat Wright (13), Ava Heiden (13) and Hannah Stuelke (12) in the victory over the Hoosiers.
The nation’s top-ranked team remains UConn with South Carolina sitting in the No. 2 slot. Across the Big Ten, Iowa is joined in the rankings by No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 Michigan, No. 11 Maryland, No. 14 Michigan State and No. 15 Ohio State.
USC and Washington both fell out of the top 25, but USC and Washington join Illinois, Nebraska, Oregon and Minnesota as Big Ten squads in the receiving votes category.
