In No. 23 Iowa women’s basketball’s (3-0) 100-58 win over Drake (1-2) from a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 13, freshman center Layla Hays registered her first career double-double en route to the Hawkeyes‘ complete domination of the Bulldogs.
The Hawkeyes boast one of the most exciting post-player rotations in the nation. Alongside 6-foot-4 sophomore center Ava Heiden and 6-foot-2 forward Hannah Stuelke, the emergence of Hays makes Iowa all the more difficult to deal with.

The towering 6-foot-5 center from Wasilla, Alaska, registered 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists on 9-for-11 shooting from the field to notch her first double-double.
With the stellar showing against the Bulldogs, Hays is beginning to find her groove offensively and is dominating the glass on both ends of the court. Hays’ continued development will be a crucial factor as the Hawkeyes start to face tougher competition.
Hays’ next opportunity to build off her first career double-double will come on the road from McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, when Iowa travels to take on Northern Iowa (0-2). The in-state matchup will begin at 2 p.m. CT and will stream on ESPN+ (subscription required).
