Iowa women’s basketball guard named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

by

After scoring a career-high 18 points in Iowa women’s basketball’s (16-2, 7-0 Big Ten) 74-66 win over Oregon last Thursday, Hawkeyes guard Addie Deal has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

During the Irving, Calif., native’s breakout performance against the Ducks on Thursday, Deal displayed a tremendous amount of confidence during her 20 minutes off the bench, shooting 7-for-9 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point territory.

The 6-foot guard added eight points on 3-for-4 shooting from the floor and 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point line in just 15 minutes off the bench in the Hawkeyes’ 75-68 victory over No. 14 Michigan State on Sunday.

Deal becomes the first Hawkeye player to receive Freshman of the Week honors since center Addison O’Grady earned the distinction on Jan. 3, 2022.

Deal’s recent breakout is also tremendous news for the Hawkeyes’ program overall, as they are scheduled to face top 25 opponents in three of their next four games.

The Hawkeyes travel to College Park, Md., on Thursday, for a clash with No. 11 Maryland (17-3, 5-3 Big Ten) at the XFINITY Center. That game is slated to tip off at 5 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on NBC.
