Some years rivalries loom a lot larger than others, and the 2025 edition of the Iowa Hawkeyes versus the Iowa State Cyclones women’s basketball teams looms very large. The newest USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll has set up a mega-showdown.
The Hawkeyes held the same position week-over-week in the rankings, coming in at No. 12, with a perfect 9-0 record, following a 79-36 road win at Rutgers. The Iowa State Cyclones bumped up one spot to No. 10 in the polls to set the stage for a heavyweight battle.

The rankings are led by No. 1 UConn, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 4 UCLA, and No. 5 LSU. Other Big Ten schools in the top 10 include No. 6 Maryland and No. 8 Michigan. Behind Iowa, the Big Ten sees USC at No. 17, Ohio State at No. 21, Washington at No. 23, and Michigan State at No. 24.
