Despite recent chaos among programs ranked around Iowa women’s basketball (13-2, 4-0 Big Ten), the Hawkeyes remained at No. 14 in the latest AP Top 25 women’s college basketball poll, released on Monday, Jan. 5.
In the two weeks between the last AP Top 25 poll release on Dec. 22, the Hawkeyes have secured wins over Penn State (7-8, 0-4 Big Ten) and rival Nebraska (13-2, 2-2 Big Ten), both from the confines of Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

While Iowa ran away with its win over the Nittany Lions, the Hawkeyes’ hard-fought victory over the Cornhuskers looked to be enough to warrant at least a minor boost in the polls, considering Nebraska’s then-No. 20 ranking. However, the AP poll voters felt that the wins did not justify a rise for the Hawkeyes this week.
Iowa started this week with a hard-fought 67-58 road win at Northwestern in which sophomore center Ava Heiden led the way with 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting.
The Hawkeyes will have another opportunity to climb in the poll with their upcoming date at Indiana (11-5, 0-4 Big Ten) on Jan. 11.
The Big Ten is once again well represented in the latest AP Top 25 rankings. UCLA is ranked No. 4, Maryland No. 8, Michigan No. 9, Michigan State No. 15, Ohio State No. 19, USC No. 21, Washington No. 23, and Nebraska No. 25. Illinois also received 58 points in the receiving votes category.
