After Iowa women’s basketball’s (18-5, 9-3 Big Ten) comeback attempt against Minnesota came up short in a 91-85 home loss to the Golden Gophers last week, the Hawkeyes have once again slid in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s College Basketball Coaches Poll.
While Iowa earned stellar offensive performances from Ava Heiden (24 points), Chit-Chat Wright (20 points), Journey Houston (15 points), and Hannah Stuelke (14 points), Minnesota’s astonishing 10-for-14 night from 3-point territory allowed them to control the majority of the game. Despite a valiant effort in the final few minutes of the fourth quarter, Iowa’s prolonged offensive lulls throughout the game ultimately came back to haunt them.

In the latest poll, Iowa’s defeat against Minnesota has now slipped the Hawkeyes two spots to No. 12 nationally.
In addition to Iowa, five other Big Ten squads are within the updated top 25. UCLA is ranked No. 2, Michigan No. 7, Ohio State No. 8, Michigan State No. 13, and Maryland No. 17.
Washington was the lone program to drop from the Top 25 this week, joining the receiving votes category with 37 votes alongside Big Ten counterparts Minnesota (39 points) and Nebraska (5 points).
The Hawkeyes will once again have just one game this week, as Washington (18-6, 8-5 Big Ten) visits Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed exclusively on BTN+.
