Iowa women’s basketball rises in latest AP Top 25 rankings

After Iowa women’s basketball (9-0) demolished Rutgers, 79-36, in its lone matchup of last week, the Hawkeyes saw a slight improvement in the Week 6 AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll.

Continuing her terrific start to the season, sophomore center Ava Heiden dominated in the Hawkeyes‘ win over the Scarlet Knights, scoring 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field along with five assists, four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in just 22 minutes of action.

As a result of the blowout victory, the AP voters moved Iowa up one spot to No. 11 nationally in the Dec. 8 edition of the AP Top 25 poll.

The Hawkeyes are accompanied by eight other Big Ten programs inside the Top 25 poll, including No. 4 UCLA (9-1), No. 6 Michigan (8-1), No. 7 Maryland (11-0), No. 16 USC (7-2), No. 20 Washington (8-1), No. 21 Ohio State (7-1), No. 24 Nebraska (9-0), No. 25 Michigan State (8-1).

Oregon (3 points) and Illinois (1 vote) are also receiving votes.

Iowa has two games this week, including the Hawkeyes’ trip to Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 10, for the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series against No. 10 Iowa State (10-0).

Following that in-state rivalry clash at the Cyclones, the Hawkeyes will take on Lindenwood (7-2) from Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, Dec. 13.
