Iowa women’s basketball signee named to MaxPreps National POY watch list

by

As Iowa women’s basketball signee McKenna Woliczko continues to excel on the court since her Jan. 2 return from injury, Woliczko has been named to the MaxPreps National Player of the Year watch list.

The 6-foot-2 Woliczko, who signed with the Hawkeyes on Nov. 12, joins a list of 19 other future women’s college basketball stars, several of whom Iowa fans may be familiar with due to the program’s recruiting activity, such as Maddyn Greenway, Jenica Lewis, Kate Harpring, Addison Bjorn, and Kaleena Smith.

Through five contests so far this season for No. 3 Archbishop Mitty, the future Hawkeye forward has recorded double-doubles in every game and averaged a double-double with 19.2 points and 12.6 rebounds, including a season-high 25 points and 15 rebounds against No. 1 Ontario Christian on Jan. 10.

If Woliczko manages to secure the honor, she would be the first Hawkeye signee to win the award in its 20-year existence. Caitlin Clark was in contention for the award in 2020 when she starred for Dowling Catholic High School, but the award was ultimately given to Hopkins High School’s Paige Bueckers.
