PFL Super Fights heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou firmly believes that there is no bigger fight in MMA, than a clash with former UFC heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones.
Ngannou (18-3) knocked out Renan Ferreira in the first round at PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants in October 2024, to claim the symbolic PFL Super Fights heavyweight title. However, he hasn’t returned to action since then, and his status with the promotion is currently uncertain.
It’s not a secret that the native of Batié, Cameroon, has been at odds with the PFL. As the Chairman of PFL Africa, Ngannou missed two PFL events that were held at the continent, in July, and August. PFL Founder and Chairman Donn Davis was reportedly not happy with Ngannou’s absence for both events.
“I’m waiting for the PFL these days,” Ngannou told TMZ Sports. “I think by mid-November they will tell me exactly where we are at. But so far, nothing. Basically not on MMA.”
Ngannou vs. Jones still a possibility?
“The Predator” had a dominant run with the UFC, where he compiled a 12-2 record, before his departure in 2023. He defeated Stipe Miocic by first-round knockout for the UFC heavyweight title, at UFC 260 in March 2021. In his only defense, Ngannou retained the championship title with a unanimous decision win against Cyril Gane at UFC 270 in January 2022.
After his contract expired in December 2022, Ngannou was unable to reach an agreement with the UFC on a new contract. In January 2023, he was stripped of the UFC heavyweight title, and became an unrestricted free agent.
The former two-division UFC champion Jones previously eyed a superfight with Ngannou at heavyweight. That became less of a reality after Ngannou signed a multi-fight deal with PFL in May 2023. But the PFL Super Fights heavyweight champion hasn’t ruled out the possibility that they can meet inside the octagon in the future.
“Biggest fight of all time, can only happen with Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou,” Ngannou said. “That’s all what I can say about that. No disrespect for other fights, or for other fighters. If you want to say biggest of all time, you make it biggest.”
