by

COLUMBIA β€”Β South Carolina women’s basketballΒ will be without starting guardΒ Ta’Niya LatsonΒ for the second straight game after spraining her ankle Dec. 28 against Providence.

Latson was listed as out on the SEC injury report that was published Jan. 3, ahead of the road game against Florida on Jan. 4 (2 p.m. ET, SEC Network).

She missed theΒ SEC openerΒ on Jan. 1 against Alabama, which the No. 3 Gamecocks (14-1, 1-0) won 83-57.

South Carolina coachΒ Dawn StaleyΒ said Latson did not practice on Jan. 2, and that it was a “maybe” that she would practice the following day.

“She’s day to day, it’s a sprain,” Staley said Jan. 1. “It’s her pain tolerance, it’s an ankle that she rolled earlier this season and it just kind of got irritated again.”

Ta’Niya Latson injury update

Not having all 10 players in the lineup is not a new issue for Staley this season; South Carolina has finished a game with all 10 just three times.

Staley added 6-foot-7 forward Alicia Tournebize to her roster in late December, but she will not be playing against the Gators (12-4, 0-1). Tournebize, 18, is from France, and still has paperwork to complete before fully enrolling as a student. South Carolina has been without forward Chloe Kitts since she tore her ACL in September.

In Latson’s absence, freshman Agot Makeer got her first career start and finished with nine points and four rebounds in 20 minutes against Alabama.

Latson had to be helped off the court in the game against Providence, and she did not put any pressure on her left foot when she walked to the locker room. She was at the game against Alabama wearing a boot, but she stood with the team without issue or crutches.

The senior had 10 points and shot 4-for-5 from the field before exiting. She’s averaging 16.9 points this season, second on the team behind Joyce Edwards, who is averaging 21.7.

She transferred to South Carolina in April 2025 after three seasons at Florida State. She led in the country in scoring with 25.2 points per game last season.
