We talk about Maxfli golf balls a lot. Why? They proved themselves in testing this year and have a lot to offer for a price point lower than most tour-level golf balls. If you have been considering the Tour X but aren’t sure if it’s a good fit for your game, here are the things you should know.
High swing speed performance
At high swing speed, the Maxfli Tour X aligned with what we see from high-compression “tour-style” balls.
It ranked near the top of the ball speed chart which follows a consistent test finding that firmer constructions tend to produce higher ball speeds.
Driver spin with the Maxfli Tour X trended lower than many urethane options.
What this means:
Fast swingers looking for speed and lower driver spin characteristics may find the Maxfli Tour X fits their needs. However, if you are prioritizing higher iron spin or added approach control, you might consider other options.
Mid swing speed performance
This is where the Maxfli Tour X stood out most clearly.
At mid swing speed, it led the field in total driver distance. It paired high ball speed with lower driver spin rates, separating it from other long balls that relied on higher spin to achieve distance.
Iron testing at mid speed showed that higher spin balls, such as Pro V1 and Pro V1x, produced more stopping power. The Maxfli Tour X did not rank among the highest-spinning balls off irons.
What this means:
Mid speed players who want to optimize driver distance while keeping driver spin lower are a strong fit for the Maxfli Tour X. If you select a ball primarily for iron spin and approach shot control, you may want to look elsewhere.
Low swing speed performance
The Maxfli Tour X remained among the faster balls tested even at low speed.
Driver spin for the Maxfli Tour X stayed on the lower end of the range. Lower spin can influence peak height and descent angle which may or may not align with your needs off the tee.
Iron testing showed that slower swingers often benefit from higher flight and spin. Several balls in the test delivered those traits more consistently than the Maxfli Tour X.
What this means:
Low swing speed golfers who already produce sufficient height may see benefits from the Maxfli Tour X. However, if you struggle to generate a high launch or enough of a descent angle, consider higher flight options.
Short-game performance
The largest performance differences in the 2025 test occurred in the 35-yard wedge test.
The Maxfli Tour X produced more than 5,900 rpm of spin, within the range of several tour-level urethane models. While it did not lead the category, it demonstrated measurable greenside spin consistent with urethane construction.
Think of the Tour X as more of a speed-and-distance urethane ball with usable short-game spin.

Final thoughts
Our 2025 Golf Ball Test positions the Maxfli Tour X as a high-compression distance-focused urethane ball.
Based on test data, it delivers:
- strong ball speed across swing speeds
- lower driver spin tendencies
- standout driver distance at mid swing speed
- competitive greenside spin in the 35-yard wedge test
