Pro players have a new ally to support mental health on and off court.

The International Tennis Federation announced the launch of its Player Care Program for players across all ITF world tours, including both pro world tours, the wheelchair tennis tour and beach tennis tour.

“The game’s global governing body is reinforcing its commitment to supporting players’ mental and physical health by providing tailored resources and expert guidance to help athletes manage the challenges of professional tennis,” the ITF said in its announcement.

Technology plays a vital part in the Player Care Program as the ITF says a Wellbeing Tracking app will permit players to monitor their mental health and gain a better understanding of it impacts their on-court performance.

Here’s a list of resources the ITF announced as part of its new Player Care Program:

A series of practical resources, titled Wellbeing Matters, covering topics such as mood regulation, sleep optimisation, relationship management and travel fatigue.
Video-based education materials covering basic financial matters such as budgeting, savings and sports taxation.
Expert advice on navigating the digital landscape and dealing with online abuse.
Confidential online consultations with wellbeing professionals.
An online course (developed in partnership with International SOS) that promotes player safety while travelling.

An online course provided by the International Olympic Committee that provides guidance on life beyond tennis, skill-building, and career preparation.

“We recognize that players are more than just competitors and this new program is based on the principle that optimal performance as an international tennis player can only be achieved through a combination of physical health and mental wellbeing,” said ITF President David Haggerty.

“As the global guardian of the game, we are committed to making sure the sport and its players thrive in all four corners of the globe.

“We are very proud to offer such a comprehensive package of free support materials to tens of thousands of players across the world – from those competing at elite international level to those planning their post-competition career.”
