Izzy Ackley Sets Two Florida Gulf Coast Records in Topping Miami, Tampa at Invite
Izzy Ackley set a pair of school records as Florida Gulf Coast topped Miami and Tampa at its Eagle Invitational in Fort Myers.
Ackley helped FGCU score 2,527.25 points over the two-day meet on Friday and Saturday, edging the University of Tampa’s 2,342 and the 1,814.75 of Miami, which did not have its divers compete at the meet.
Ackley was outstanding over the two days at the FGCU Aquatics Complex. She won the 100 butterfly in 54.09 seconds, edging Miami’s Isabelle Videment by .04 seconds. Ackley notched an NCAA A cut in the 100 backstroke, going 51.92.
The sophomore set the school record in the 100 individual medley by going 55.37, a time that bested teammate Cassie Bauer to the win by six tenths. Ackley united the two strands with an A cut and a school record in the 200 back, going 1:53.44.
Ackley helped FGCU win both medley relays. Bauer swam breaststroke on both in addition to winning the 200 IM (2:01.79) and 100 breast (1:02.38). Leah Gentry-Tuney swam on both relays before winning the 100 freestyle in 50.10. FGCU’s Aislyn Barnett won the 200 breast (2:13.94) and the mile (16:54.55).
The 50 free was a highlight for sheer oddity. Gentry-Tuney tied with Savannah Barr of Miami for the win in 23.34 seconds. Third place went to Videment. Her Miami teammate Ashlyn Massey and Tampa’s Tilde Morin tied for fourth in 23.50, then not two, not three but four swimmers tied for sixth at 23.71.
Tampa’s wins came in distance. Laura Hodgson won 4:54.99 to win the 500 free. She was second in the mile. Burlingtyn Bokos won the 400 IM in 4:22.35. She was the runner-up to Bauer in the 200 IM and to Massey in the 200 fly.
Miami swept all three freestyle relays. Massey was on all three squads. Videment swam on the 200 and 400 free, while Barr led off the 400 and 800.
