Jake McCarthy traded to Rockies from D-backs

The Colorado Rockies announced today they have acquired outfielder from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Josh Grosz.

McCarthy has a .260/.324/.381 slash line with 46 doubles, 20 triples, 24 home runs, 139 RBIs and 83 stolen bases in 431 games over parts of five Major League seasons with Arizona from 2021-25. In 2025, he slashed .204/.247/.345 with seven doubles, five triples, four home runs, 20 RBIs and six stolen bases in 67 games with the Diamondbacks.

Since his debut in 2021, his 20 triples are tied for 12th-most in the Major Leagues while his 84.7 stolen base percentage (83 SB, 15 CS) is tied for the 10th-highest percentage in the National League (min. 70 attempts). His 29.9 sprint speed in 2025 was tied for fifth-fastest in the Majors (min. 200 PA).

Over his Major League career, the 28-year-old has started 157 games in right field, 104 in center field and 78 in left field with a .993 fielding percentage.

McCarthy finished fourth in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2022, slashing .283/.342/.427 in 99 games with Arizona in 2022. He posted 3.0 fWAR while slashing .285/.349/.400 across a career-high 142 games in 2024.

The Scranton, Pa., native was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 23rd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign. He was then drafted by Arizona in the Competitive Balance Round A (39th overall) in 2018 out of the University of Virginia.

Grosz, 23, was acquired by Colorado from the New York Yankees as part of the Ryan McMahon trade on July 25, 2025. He was 1-6 with a 5.87 ERA in seven starts for High-A Spokane in 2025.
