Jake Paul down to fight ‘low-key soft’ Francis Ngannou in boxing

by

Jake Paul has yet to recover from his broken jaw, and he’s already taking aim at another heavy hitter.

The influencer-turned-professional boxer took a shot at former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in his first interview since losing to heavyweight great Anthony Joshua last Friday in Miami. Paul was stopped by Joshua in the sixth round of a heavyweight professional boxing bout that streamed live on Netflix. That is four more rounds than Ngannou, who was stopped in the second by Joshua in March 2024.

“I’ll fight Francis,” Paul said on “Impaulsive.” “… I told everyone that I would do better than Francis, and that Francis kind of has no chin. Francis is low-key soft.”

Paul was originally scheduled to fight Gervonta Davis on Dec. 19, but the fight was canceled due to Davis’ legal issues from an alleged assault on a woman in a Miami strip club. The incident prompted Joshua’s appearance, as the Olympic gold medalist in boxing filled. However, Joshua wasn’t the only option Paul and MVP reached out to when the Davis fight fell through. They had also contacted Ngannou, who rejected the fight and felt insulted at the mere proposal.

With the showing against Joshua, Paul feels Ngannou now sees things differently.

“I think maybe now he’ll take it and be like, ‘Oh, sh*t,” Paul said.

Paul’s appearance in Impaulsive was short, and wasn’t present for the full podcast along with his mom and his brother Logan. He noted that he was still in pain from the surgery, which required titanium plates and several screws. Yet, despite the loss and the broken jaw, Paul remains happy with his run in boxing.

“I did have fun. I love this sport,” Paul said. “I love this job. It doesn’t even feel like a job. It’s f*cking awesome. I had a blast in there. Win, lose or draw, this sport has done so much for me. I’m happy and grateful for all the life memories created in these fight weeks, and everything that we’ve done is just super awesome.”
