2025 SEC media days were held Tuesday and Wednesday at Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook in Birmingham, Alabama. Maryland transfer guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie represented Tennessee at media days on Wednesday.
He committed to the Vols following the end of the 2024-25 basketball season.

The 6-foot-1, 188-pound senior guard also played at Belmont from 2022-25. He played one season at Maryland.
Gillespie discussed why he transferred to Tennessee from Maryland.
“It’s home for me,” he said at SEC media days. “I grew up an hour down the road from Tennessee. It’s a winning program. They went to the Elite Eight the past two years, and then coach (Rick) Barnes, he’s a legendary coach. I just couldn’t pass that up.”
Gillespie has appeared in 93 games, including 68 starts, during his collegiate career, averaging 13.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per contest.
