Jaland Lowe injury update from Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope

LEXINGTON —  Kentucky basketball point guard Jaland Lowe left Saturday’s win over Mississippi State because of a right shoulder injury and did not return.

During a news conference Monday, UK coach Mark Pope said Lowe’s status going forward is uncertain.

“He was in some pain (Sunday). We’re doing consults,” Pope said. “I was hoping he was going to wake up feeling perfectly. So we’ll see.”

With or without Lowe available, UK will hit the road to take on LSU at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Saturday’s incident marked the fourth time in less than three months Lowe has injured the same shoulder.

The injury initially occurred during the Blue-White intrasquad game on Oct. 17. Lowe reinjured the shoulder during a Wildcats practice Nov. 13. The injury flared up a third time shortly after Lowe checked in for the first time in Kentucky’s matchup with St. John’s in Atlanta on Dec. 20. Though he sat for the remainder of the first half versus the Red Storm, Lowe returned after halftime, helping UK rally for a win in the CBS Sports Classic.

Saturday’s injury took place at the 17:18 mark of the first half, as Lowe knocked the ball away from the SEC’s top scorer, MSU guard Josh Hubbard. Almost instantaneously, Lowe grabbed at his shoulder. He walked off the floor and into the home locker room at Rupp Arena.

Lowe joined the Wildcats as a transfer, expected to be the starting point guard this season.

But the ongoing shoulder issue has prevented him from playing an outsized role since the 2025-26 campaign began.

A Texas native, Lowe has appeared in nine games, with two starts. He’s averaging eight points and 2.4 assists in 18 minutes per game.
