Jannik Sinner doesn't agree with Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek in calendar criticism

by

Jannik Sinner has reiterated his previous stance on the tennis calendar as he is not joining Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff in criticizing the schedule.

Usually, this part of the year is the time when players start to complain more about the calendar. This year is no exception as several top male and female players have once again claimed that the calendar is "too long" and "too demanding."

At the China Open in Beijing, Swiatek said it was "impossible" to play all mandatory tournaments and indicated she would "break some rules" in the future. When asked about Swiatek's comments, Alcaraz fully agreed. Meanwhile, Gauff suggested that playing all mandatory tournaments would have a negative impact on a player's body.

When asked about the matter last year, Sinner said he was fine with the schedule and insisted that the players had an option to pick where to play. Now, he is repeating the same message.

Sinner: I don't want to criticize anything… We can still choose

"I mean, I don't want to criticize anything. For me, everyone thinks in different ways. We can still, as I always say, we can still choose, you know, as players, you just have to understand what the priority is for yourself. I always made choices, even last year, you know, sometimes jumping some tournaments. The schedule is what it is. If you want to play a tournament, you have to play tournament. If not, you make another choice to rest or practice, you know, that's it. So, yeah, it is what it is," the world No. 2 said.

At this week's Shanghai Masters, Sinner is playing only his ninth tournament of the year. However, as you know, the Italian tennis star was banned between February and early May. Still, the 24-year-old has appeared in 47 matches this year and owns a 42-5 record.
