Jannik Sinner failed to defend the US Open title. The Italian fell to Carlos Alcaraz 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the title clash after two hours and 42 minutes, missing a chance to lift his fifth Major crown.
Carlos outplayed his greatest rival and ended his reign at the top of men's tennis after 65 weeks. Thus, the Spaniard started his 37th week as world no. 1, reclaiming the throne after two years.
The Italian suffered a defeat that cost him the title and the no. 1 streak. Jannik now finds himself in a new position – no longer defending the throne but chasing it for the first time since June last year!

The 24-year-old admitted that his mindset must shift ahead of the remaining events of the season and his upcoming duels against Carlos. The Spaniard sets the standard, and the Italian enters the hunt, eager to reclaim ground.
The challenge will not be easy, at least in the upcoming months! To finish the season ahead of his great rival, Sinner will need to consistently outplay an in-form Alcaraz across the calendar, especially in Shanghai, Paris and Turin.
However, with the Spaniard's form since April, a task looks daunting at the moment. Still, Jannik's resolve remains. He has grown into one of the sport's most reliable performers over the last two years.

With his determination to evolve further and challenge the El Palmar native, the rivalry promises more high-stakes battles in the upcoming months and years. The Italian may have surrender the throne after a notable first-time stint.
However, his new role as hunter could make him even more dangerous and hungry for success.
"One new thing is that I will not be world no. 1 from now on. The approach will change, and now it's time to hunt," Jannik Sinner said.
