ATLANTA − Jaxson Moi left Tennessee football‘s game against Syracuse with an apparent upper-body injury in the first quarter on Saturday, Aug. 30.
The Vols defensive tackle stayed down after Syracuse’s Yasin Willis rushed for four yards. He appeared to be holding his left elbow.

Moi was one of the two starting defensive tackles for Tennessee alongside senior Bryson Eason. The Vols are without junior Daevin Hobbs, who suffered an injury during preseason practices.
Sophomore Nathan Robinson entered in Moi’s place for the rest of Syracuse’s opening drive. Tennessee led 3-0 at the time of Moi’s injury. Robinson forced a fumble when he sacked Syracuse QB Steve Angeli late in the first quarter. Cornerback Colton Hood scooped up the fumble and ran 22 yards for a touchdown to put UT ahead 17-0 with 56 seconds to play in the first quarter.
Freshman defensive tackles Isaiah Campbell and Ethan Utley are backups on the interior of the defensive line. Junior Jamal Wallace is also listed as backup to Moi alongside Utley.
Moi transferred to Tennessee from Stanford prior to the 2024 season. He had seven tackles with two sacks in his first season with the Vols.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Moi played all 12 games at Stanford in 2023, including seven starts. He had 15 tackles with a tackle for loss in 2023. He had 22 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss in 2022 as a freshman. The San Diego native was a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.
