The A’s are adding a versatile veteran to their young core, having agreed to a trade with the Mets for infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Monday. The clubs have not confirmed the trade, which will send right-handed pitching prospect Yordan Rodriguez to the Mets and $5.75 million to the A’s.
McNeil, who will turn 34 on April 8, has hit .284/.351/.428 across his eight MLB seasons, all of which he has spent with the Mets. The 2022 MLB batting champ with a .326 average is due to become a free agent after next season. He hit .243 with 12 homers in 122 games this past season.
Rodriguez posted a 2.93 ERA in eight games (one start) in Rookie ball this year, his first pro season. The 17-year-old native of Cuba is not ranked among the A’s top 30 prospects, per MLB Pipeline.
