Jets' Jermaine Johnson activated from PUP list

Jermaine Johnson passed his physical and was activated off of the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, the Jets announced Sunday.

The 6-foot-5, 254-pounder suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in New York's 24-17 win at the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season last September.

Recently, Johnson was medically cleared to return and expected to be ready for the Jets' Week 1 game Sept. 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"He's going through the protocol of getting himself ready," New York coach Aaron Glenn said of Johnson last week. "Everyone has their own protocol — he understands and he's working his ass off to get back, but we want to make sure we have him for the long haul."

The 2022 NFL Draft's No. 26 overall pick totaled 55 tackles (11 for loss), 7.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble over 17 starts as a second-year pro in 2023, leading to a Pro Bowl selection.

As a rookie during the 2022 season, Johnson made 29 tackles (three for loss) in 14 games.
