LAS VEGAS – Jiri Prochazka was surprised with Dominick Reyes’ form against Carlos Ulberg.
Reyes (15-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) saw his three-fight winning streak snapped by Ulberg (13-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) after he was knocked out in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 260 main event this past Saturday in Perth, Australia.
Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who knocked out Reyes with a brutal spinning back elbow in their May 2021 fight, thinks Reyes looked off against Ulberg.
“That was not the day of Dominick Reyes,” Prochazka told MMA Junkie and other reporters Monday at the UFC Performance Institute. “Man, what I saw, he was slow, he was not in himself, and he just walked into the combination. That was a pure catch with no action. That was not his day.”
Former light heavyweight champion Prochazka will look to re-enter the title picture when he takes on Khalil Rountree Jr. (14-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC 320 (pay-per-view, FX/ESPNews/Disney+, ESPN+) main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Ulberg was told by Hunter Campbell that he will weigh in as the official backup for Saturday’s UFC 320 title-fight rematch between champion Magomed Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) and Alex Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC), and Prochazka will look to leapfrog the Kiwi with a win over Rountree.
