Joao Fonseca: I’m still young, but my dream is to become No. 1 and win a Grand Slam

Tennis fans have always enjoyed watching tennis talents.

19-year-old Joao Fonseca has been showing for several seasons that he really belongs at the very top and that he poses a threat to the best tennis players.

If his career continues on an upward trajectory as it has so far, there is no doubt that he will be at the very top of the ATP list.

However, he focuses on one challenge at a time, and only then creates clear plans for the future.

The 19-year-old was due to play at this year's Brisbane International but was forced to withdraw due to back problems. However, his participation in the Adelaide International is still in circulation, so we will see if Fonseca will perform in this tournament.

Speaking to the Inside-In podcast, the Brazilian tennis player reflected on his ambitions, saying that he is still young, but that his desires are to become world number one and win the Grand Slam. Such a goal is extremely ambitious, especially when we know that Fonseca is one of the most talented young tennis players, which the comments of experts and analysts only confirm.

“I’m still young, it’s my first year, but what helps me a lot to stay motivated is my dream — to become No. 1 and to win a Grand Slam,” Fonseca said.

Fonseca took advantage of the break after the season

Fonseca used the break after the start of the year to prepare for the season and analyze where he made mistakes and where he can improve further. He is proud of all his successes so far, but emphasizes that he is always hungry for new challenges and that he will not stop on this path.

“It’s very strange — when you win titles and keep jumping from tournament to tournament, country to country, you can’t really enjoy it,” he said. “After the year ended, I had two weeks of vacation and reflected a little. It’s amazing to see what I achieved, but I’m always hungry for more.”

At such a young age, he faces many challenges and sometimes it is difficult to stay fully focused solely on tennis. Fonseca admits that sometimes he does not even want to pick up a racket, but his dream of becoming world number one motivates him even in those moments — a single thought is enough to get him going and give him strength.
