The Rays added to their outfield depth by acquiring Justyn-Henry Malloy in a trade with the Tigers in exchange for cash considerations on Tuesday.
Malloy, who had been designated for assignment by Detroit on Dec. 20, has hit .209 with a .311 OBP and nine homers in 123 big league games across the last two seasons. The 25-year-old former sixth-round Draft pick of the Braves ranked as Detroit’s No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, in 2023 and made his Major League debut in June ’24.
Malloy played both corner-outfield spots and first base in his two seasons with the Tigers.
