Kamaru Usman responds to Tyron Woodley: ‘What the hell did I do to him?’

by

Kamaru Usman is confused by Tyron Woodley’s passionate rant about him.

Woodley went off on Usman by not only dismissing Dana White’s claim that he’s the greatest welterweight of all time, but by calling him a “kiss-ass.” Usman dethroned Woodley to become UFC welterweight champion in 2019, and went on to defend his belt five times.

Usman (21-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC) admits he admired Woodley when he was on his come-up, but isn’t sure how to feel about him anymore.

“What the hell did I do to him?” Usman said on his “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with Henry Cejudo. “I’ve never spoken anything against him negatively, publicly. But come on, you can just see this and tell that this guy – I’ve been hearing negative things from him for a while now, not just about me, but about my camp and the guys I work with. … He’s hated on me, he’s hated on my team, he hated on our manager.

“It’s not our fault that we didn’t do things the way that you did, to end up the way you have. I don’t like the fact that I see this from you. This is not becoming of you, man. At one point I looked at this man, and I said, ‘I love everything that you’re doing.’ But you’re making it very, very hard for me to continue to still be a fan of yours.”

Usman is currently campaigning for a title shot against newly crowned UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev. In his most recent octagon appearance in June, he snapped Joaquin Buckley’s six-fight winning streak.
