Kansas football announces second home sellout of the season, this time in a Big 12 matchup

by

LAWRENCE — While tickets may still be available for Kansas football’s Big 12 Conference opener on Sept. 20 at home against West Virginia, KU Athletics announced on Sept. 11 that its home game vs. Cincinnati on Sept. 27 has sold out.

This marks the second sellout so far this season for the Jayhawks, following the season opener against Fresno State. So far, Kansas coach Lance Leipold and company are 2-0 at home, including a win against Wagner. Overall KU is 2-1, with a loss this past weekend on the road against Missouri.

The new-look David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium has led to a boost in energy surrounding the program this fall, and at this point it’s just a matter of how far Leipold and his team can take it.

While they might not have entered the season as a group that was viewed as a Big 12 contender, attack these early weeks of conference play the right way and that could change. Beating Missouri would have done a lot for that conversation, but Kansas let that chance slip away.

Jayhawks redshirt senior quarterback Jalon Daniels has connected well with his wide receivers so far, including a pair of transfers in senior Emmanuel Henderson Jr. (Alabama) and redshirt junior Cam Pickett (Ball State). There’s been some big-play ability showcased by KU’s defense, such as redshirt freshman cornerback Austin Alexander’s fumble return for a touchdown against Missouri. Moving forward, consistency will be key as Kansas looks to make the most of an energized crowd in Lawrence.
