UFC 319: Karine Silva post-fight interview
UFC 319 winner Karine Silva spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after her unanimous decision victory over Dione Barbosa.
CHICAGO – Karine Silva met with MMA Junkie and other media members Saturday after her win over Dione Barbosa at UFC 319.
Silva (19-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) outworked Barbosa (8-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) for a unanimous decision on the preliminary card at United Center in Chicago. Although all three judges scored each round the same, the fans seemed to be surprised Silva got the nod – as did members of the ESPN broadcast crew.
“I was a little surprised with the reaction of the fans,” Silva said through a translator at her post-fight news conference. “I thought I was closer to submitting her for two of the rounds, and (it’s supposed to be) damage over control when they’re judging the fight. I thought I had it in the bag. I knew it was close, but I knew I had won it.”
Silva outstruck Barbosa and had the pair of submission attempts, but Barbosa had three takedowns and more control time.
It was a return to the win column for the Brazilian, who said she now hopes to fight in her home country in October when the UFC heads to Rio de Janeiro.
“I would love to fight in Rio,” Silva said. “It can be with J.J. Aldrich – they can rebook that one. I know Erin Blanchfield doesn’t have a fight right now. I know Maycee Barber doesn’t have a fight right now. Any girls that are ranked that want an opponent, I’m right here.”
