The US Open continued from Texas with the first full day of competition.
The prelims include the men’s and women’s 50 backstroke, 400 free, 200 IM, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle heats.
Here is a look at how the morning played out:
US Open Women’s 50 Backstroke
As anticipated, the backstroke events are again loaded on the women’s side.
American record-holder Katharine Berkoff took the top seed in 27.49, about a half second off of her US Open and American record time of 26.97 set in June.
Regan Smith was just behind at 27.79, followed by fellow Olympian Phoebe Bacon, who got tot he wall in 28.13.
Erika Palaez took the fourth seed in 28.21, just ahead of a pair of Canadian Olympians, Ingrid Wilm (28.28) and Mary-Sophie Harvey (28.42), who continues to shine swimming just about anything.
Rounding out the top eight were Leah Shackley (28.48) and Kaitlyn Owens (28.53).
US Open Men’s 50 Backstroke
While the U.S. men dominated the backstroke to kick off the session, it was the international men who were off to the races faster in the men’s event.
Australia’s Henry Allan took the top seed in 24.70, followed by Ivan Tarasov and Hubert Kos, who tied at 25.19 for the second seed.
US’s Shaine Casas took the fourth seed in 25.22, ahead of Bjoern Kammann (25.24), Jack Aikens (25.29) and Daniel Diehl (25.29), who tied for the sixth spot, and Sam Lorenz (25.30).

US Open Women’s 400 Free
The international star power continued in the 400 free as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh claimed the top seed in the 400 free by 11 seconds.
McIntosh got to the wall in 4:00.68. The second seed went to U.S. Olympian Emma Weyant, who finished in 4:11.89.
Alex Siegel took the third seed in 4:13.56, followed by Mila Nikaronov (4:13.60), Olympians Anna Peplowski (4:13.65) and Erin Gemmell (4:14.41), Chloe Stepanek (4:14.99) and Leticia Fassina Romao (4:15.77).

US Open Men’s 400 Free
Training partners Luke Hobson, Carson Foster and Leon Marchand all showed up in strong fashion, taking the top three seeds in the 400 freestyle to set up what should be a very interesting final.
Hobson took the top seed in 3:47.56, ahead of Foster (3:48.05) and Marchand (3:48.13).
Luka Mijatovic took the fourth seed in 3:48.30, ahead of Aaron Shackell (3:49.56), Illia Sibertsev (3:51.60), Luke Whitlock (3:51.94) and Jordi Vilchez (3:52.00).
Bobby Finke ended up 11th (3:55.21).

US Open Women’s 200 IM
US Olympic gold medalist Kate Douglass cranked out a strong morning swim to get to the wall in 2:10.60.
Having just swam the 50 back, Canada Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey threw down a 2:11.35 to take th top seed.
Olympian Alex Walsh took the third spot at 2:11.67.
Tara Kinder took the fourth seed in 2:13.44, followed by UCLA’s Rosie Murphy (2:13.72), Olympians Alex Shackell (2:13.88) and Phoebe Bacon (2:14.38), who also swam the 50 back, and Isaballe Boyd (2:15.10).

US Open Men’s 200 IM
Swimming a quick double, Hungary Olympic champion Hubert Kos took the top seed in the 200 IM. He got to the wall in 1:58.79, just ahead of Texas A&M’s Baylor Nelson (1:58.99).
Indiana’s Owen McDonald finished with the third seed in 1:59.25, followed by Tristan Jakovics (1:59.31), Canada’s Finlay Knox (1:58.72), Noah Cakier (2:00.04), Olympian Kieran Smith (2:00.64) and Luke Barr (2:00.71).

US Open Women’s 50 Breaststroke
Ireland’s Mona McSharry claimed the top seed in the 50 breast, getting to the wall in 30.80.
Maria Ramos Najji took the second seed in 30.91, followed by Skyler Smith (30.99), Mackenzie Lung (31.00), Aliz Kalmar (31.03), Piper Enge (31.16), Alexanne Lepage (31.19) and Caroline Larsen (31.33).

US Open Men’s 50 Breaststroke
Michael Houlie took the top seed in the 50 breast, getting to the wall in 26.79.
Van Mathias took the second spot in 26.64, followed by Campbell McKean (27.23), Jack Kelly (27.26), Josh Matheny (27.32), Nate Germonprez (27.58), Andres Puente Bustamante (27.61) and Travis Gulledge (27.69).

US Open Women’s 50 Free
Kate Douglass claimed her second top seed of the morning with a 24.49 in the 50 freestyle.
She was just ahead of NYAC and former Virginia teammate Gretchen Walsh (24.67).
They both share the American record at 23.91.
Marie Wattel was third in 24.79, followed by Darcy Revitt (24.85) and Olympic champion Simone Manuel (24.86).
Rounding out the top eight were Elizaveta Klevanovich (24.99), Caroline Larsen (25.00) and Liberty Clark (25.03).

US Open Men’s 50 Free
Caeleb Dressel swam to the 11th seed in the 50 free, getting to the wall in 22.17 in his return to the big stage.
Serbia’s Andrej Barna took the top seed in 21.58, followed by Olympians Jack Alexy (21.71) and Chris Guiliano (21.74).
Arizona State’s Jonny Kulow was fourth (21.90), followed by Remi Fabiani (21.91), Tolu Young (21.92), Kaii Winkler (21.93) and Matt King (22.04).
