Kate Martin Makes Caitlin Clark Decision After Second WNBA Season

by

Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark both played together at the University of Iowa.

Then, both Martin and Clark were selected in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Clark went No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever, and Martin was the No. 6 pick in the second round by the Las Vegas Aces.

Martin was then selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA expansion draft after she played one season for the Aces.

In her first season with Golden State, Martin played in 42 games and averaged 6.2 points with 2.7 rebounds.

Martin and Clark have remained close friends despite playing on different WNBA teams, and they have plenty of memories after playing 139 games together with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

With the WNBA offseason here, Martin did a rapid-fire Q&A and answered a number of questions about Iowa, including favorite side of campus, favorite jersey and favorite restaurant.

Another question asked about her favorite Kate, other than herself.

And, her answer was Caitlin Clark, as Martin said with a chuckle.

In the 2025 WNBA season, Martin and the Valkyries defeated Clark and the Fever in June, 88-77, and Martin said at the time that she is “always cheering her on.”

The Valkyries then defeated the Fever again, 80-61 in July, although Clark played just a handful of games after that.

The answer from the former Hawkeyes star shouldn’t be too surprising, especially since Clark and Martin developed a close friendship during their college days that has endured during their young WNBA careers.
