For the second consecutive game, No. 21 Ohio State women’s basketball needed the second half to pull away from an opponent that entered the game under .500.

The Buckeyes (9-1) defeated the Rockets (3-5) 85-60 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on Dec. 14, helped by a 10-1 run toward the end of the third quarter.

During a 94-62 victory over Northern Kentucky on Dec. 10, the Buckeyes also relied on a third-quarter run to take control of the game

“I think we were a little better than last game, but that’s not hard to do,” Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said. “Whether you’re on the bench or on the floor, you’ve got to show up to be ready to do your job and to kind of impose how we want to play the game.”

Ohio State guard Kennedy Cambridge’s career high in points is 23, which she scored in an 85-60 win over Toledo.

After a timeout in the third quarter, Ohio State guard Kennedy Cambridge started the run with back-to-back layups. Cambridge finished with a career-high 23 points, nine coming off Rockets’ turnovers.

Ohio State and Toledo traded the lead 12 times in the first half, with Cambridge recording 11 points and four rebounds to ensure the Buckeyes went into halftime ahead 37-33.

“Obviously, we’re not playing the best teams right now,” Cambridge said. “But that’s where the discipline comes in. That’s where you take everything you’ve done in practice and put it into the game setting.”

Four other Buckeyes finished in double-digits for scoring, including point guard Jaloni Cambridge, whose 12 points were a season low.

The Buckeyes will host Norfolk State on Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
