Kenny Omega Reveals How He Wants to Retire From Wrestling

by

Kenny Omega has constantly dealt with health issues for the past several years, which have greatly affected his in-ring abilities. While he’s still an active wrestler, Omega has now revealed how he plans to retire from wrestling.

While speaking to SHAK Wrestling, Kenny Omega opened up about how he wants his career to end. He said he hopes to retire at a time when he still has athletic ability left and can walk away without regrets or damaging the reputation he built.

Omega doesn’t want to wrestle until his body breaks down to the point where he no longer resembles who he used to be in the ring, so his retirement timing is something he thinks about carefully.

“I would like to be in a situation where I left the ring not having any regrets and not feeling embarrassed or that I tarnished my own reputation. So, I would like to leave when I have some semblance of athleticism left in my body.

I don’t want to completely work until the wheels fall off and that the person that leaves wrestling is one that barely resembles the Kenny Omega of old. So, I’ve been thinking a lot about when that timing would be.”

The Best Bout Machine shared that when he eventually steps away, he doesn’t want it to be a sad moment. Ideally, fans wouldn’t even notice he was gone right away.

Omega’s hope is that by the time he retires, AEW will have enough strong stars who shine bright enough that his absence won’t overshadow them. Being able to leave knowing the company and its wrestlers can thrive without him would make him the happiest.

“One important thing for me, too, is when I finally do leave, whenever that may be, I don’t—and this might sound odd—but I don’t want people to be sad. In fact, the best case scenario for me would be that they don’t realize I’m gone at all. I would love to build people or have the peace of mind that the company has built enough stars so that their star is shining bright enough to distract from me stepping away from the scene. That would make me the most happy.”

Kenny Omega’s thoughts show that he cares more about the future of wrestling than about getting a big retirement moment for himself. When he finally steps away, it could end up being one of the most humble retirements in wrestling history, so we’ll have to see when the Best Bout Machine will hang up his pro wrestling boots for good.

Should Kenny Omega have a big retirement match — or is a quiet exit the perfect ending for his career? Sound off in the comments.
