Kim Caldwell previews second basketball season at Tennessee

The 2025-26 women’s basketball season will be the second for Tennessee under head coach Kim Caldwell. The Lady Vols are ranked No. 9 in the preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Caldwell guided the Lady Vols to a 24-10 (8-8 SEC) record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the 2024-25 basketball season.

She previewed her second season at Tennessee with Vols Wire at local media day on Wednesday.

“You feel a lot more settled, a lot more established, you’re not pregnant which is great, it is has made things a lot easier, and I think it has been great to have six newcomers and kind of echo what you want on the floor that know what to expect, know the the flow of season, know how hard we work,” Caldwell said. “I think we’re more athletic, for sure, so hopefully our press will be more effective and we will be able to get more live ball steals.

“I would like for our offense to be more efficient and to be more fast to be able to score more points. One thing we really need to improve upon is our half court defense once the team gets it across.”
