Korean coach Park Seong Soo dies unexpectedly aged 55

Korean coach Park Seong Soo has died unexpectedly at the age of 55, according to domestic news.

He was in Cheongju, in the centre of the country, with his team from Incheon Gyeyang-gu to take part in the 42nd Chairman’s Cup. He was found unresponsive in his room this morning after not meeting the team ahead of competition.

Park has coached the professional squad since 2000.

The individual runner-up and team gold medallist at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games as an athlete, he later stood behind Oh Jin Hyek in the coaching box for one of the most pivotal moments in the history of Korean archery, Oh’s individual win at the London 2012 Olympics.

He was also responsible for the world-leading men’s team at Paris 2024, where Kim Woojin also became individual Olympic Champion.

The event in Cheongju was scheduled to run until 30 August.
