MLB.com is keeping track of the latest news and rumors surrounding Kyle Schwarber.
Nov. 10: Will we see a Schwarber signing soon?
This year’s top free agents certainly won’t rush their possibly life-altering decision of where to sign this winter. But according to MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi, we may see Schwarber, perhaps the best power hitter available, not last long on the open market.
“My theory is this, from talking to people around the industry, that if we do see one significant bat sign early that it could be Kyle Schwarber,” Morosi said Monday. “Here’s why: To me, his market is more defined than the [other top free agents]. … There are just more moving parts to some of the other [position-player free agents], whereas with Schwarber, it is so clear what his role is. It is so clear what his value to the Phillies is.”
Nov. 2: What will Schwarber’s market look like?
Schwarber has been one of baseball’s premier sluggers for much of his 11-year career, but especially since arriving in Philadelphia on a four-year, $79 million free-agent deal in 2022. He saved his best for ‘25 and is now prepared to cash in yet again on the open market.
Schwarber led the National League with 56 homers and drove in an MLB-best 132 RBIs while playing in all 162 games this season. He had the highest hard-hit rate (59.6%) of any qualified hitter. Schwarber, who turns 33 in March, has 187 home runs over the past four seasons; only Aaron Judge (210) has more. Although he is a DH-only player who offers no value on the basepaths, Schwarber’s big, loud bat makes him one of the top hitters available this offseason.
