Lady Tigers fall in defensive fight with Glenpool

It was a defensive fight in the return home for Tahlequah girls basketball vs. Glenpool.

With both teams’ defenses overtaking the game, the Lady Tigers lost 56-51, Tuesday, Dec. 9. After halftime, the Lady Warriors’ defense started a more aggressive attack and stifled the Lady Tigers at time.

“I thought our kids competed,” THS head coach David Qualls said. “We had our opportunities to win and didn’t take advantage of them. I hope it’s a game that we can learn and grow from.”

In the first quarter, the Lady Tigers got out to a strong lead. Neither team could get much going in the first three minutes. However, the Lady Tigers found some rhythm to take a 10-3 lead.

GHS flipped the script in the final two minutes and cut the lead to 12-8 heading into the second quarter.

THS started shooting better in the second period, quickly jumping out to a 25-13 lead. However, the tides quickly changed as the Lady Warriors went on a 10-0 run to finish the half, cutting the lead to 25-23.

Out of halftime, the Lady Warriors quickly dropped two baskets to take the lead for the first time since the early minutes of the game. Raylee McCarter retook the lead with a driving lay-up and a conversion on the and-one foul.

GHS quickly retook the lead with a 3-pointer and after that, the Lady Tigers were in fight mode.

To start the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers scored four straight points with Carsyn Gilbert tying the game up with a lay-up. It didn’t last long with the Lady Warriors retaking the lead.

THS tried to use the foul line to their advantage with Gilbert and McCarter both going to the line.

However, it was too little as GHS took the 56-51 win.

The Lady Tigers are back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at home vs. Durant.
