Lady Tigers have solid second half in scrimmage vs. Roland

by

Coming out of the locker room vs. Roland, Tahlequah girls basketball found a rhythm and improved on a rusty first half.

The defense and offense played well in the Lady Tigers scrimmage, Thursday, Nov. 13. Once the 3-pointers started dropping in the third and fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers found their game and played well against a tough Rangers team.

“This time of year, you practice so much and you get tired of playing intrasquad scrimmages, so it’s always good to use your dates to play another team,” THS coach David Qualls said. “That was another good team that came in and it was good for us.”

In the first two quarters, the Lady Tigers couldn’t find their tempo, giving up some turnovers and points in transition. However, to close out the game, the Lady Tigers played a solid zone defense to shut down Roland.

Gilbert

Tahlequah’s Carsyn Gilbert shoots a 3-pointer in a scrimmage vs. Roland Thursday, Nov. 13.

Throughout the second half, Lakyn Adams, Carsyn Gilbert, Moe Wilson, Raylee McCarter and Lauren Stephens all put in a 3-pointer. The deep attack will likely be a strength for the Lady Tigers this season.

“They got going and they were ready to shoot when they caught it,” Qualls said. “That’s part of the mental game of shooting – before you shoot, being ready. I thought we were also just more aggressive coming out of the locker room.”

The Lady Tigers played four quarters of basketball and the junior varsity got a chance to take the court. In the first quarter, the Lady Tigers won 13-7 and in the second quarter, they outscored the Rangers 16-8.

“We had some good JV quarters today,” Qualls said. “We’ll go back and watch the film and grade it out to see how we did.”

The scrimmage vs. the Rangers marks the last at home for the Lady Tigers. THS opens the season Tuesday, Dec. 2 at home vs. Stilwell.
