Lady Vols basketball picked to finish fifth in SEC

The Tennessee women’s basketball team was picked to finished fifth in the SEC by league coaches in the their preseason poll, which was released Wednesday.

The Lady Vols will open their 2025-26 season with a No. 8 national ranking in the AP Poll and were also picked to finish fourth in the SEC by the media on Oct. 13.

Texas was picked to win the SEC championship and was followed by South Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Missouri, Auburn and Arkansas.

Tennessee is one of four teams in the top 10 of the preseason AP Poll. South Carolina is ranked No. 2. Texas is fourth, while LSU is fifth and Oklahoma is sixth. Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Kentucky are also ranked in the AP Poll top 25. Ole Miss is ranked No. 12, while the Commodores are No. 19 and Kentucky is No. 24.

Tennessee redshirt junior guard Talaysia Cooper was named preseason First-Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches. Last year, she averaged 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
