Indiana State’s women’s basketball team slipped to 2-2 for the season on Sunday, losing 77-73 at Austin Peay after the host Governors erased an eight-point Sycamore lead in the fourth quarter in F&M Bank Arena.

Jayci Allen led all scorers with 19 points off the bench for ISU.

Tierney Kelsey and Clemisha Prackett joined Allen in double digits off the bench with 18 and 11, respectively, while Samiyah Briggs finished with 13. Prackett also added a game-high 11 rebounds to complete her second double-double of the season, with Kennedy Claybrooks adding seven points and seven assists.

On Monday, Kelsey — a sophomore guard — was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. Kelsey tallied career highs in nearly every statistical category while helping Indiana State post a 2-1 record in last week’s games. She averaged 17 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 51.3 percent from the field across the Sycamores’ three contests last week.

The Memphis, Tennessee, native posted the best game of her young career in the Trees’ 90-69 home-opening win over Eastern Illinois, finishing with a career-high 22 points, five rebounds and three assists against the Panthers. Monday’s honor is the first weekly award for Kelsey in her career, and marks the first MVC weekly honor for a Sycamore in the Marc Mitchell era.

As ISU sports information reported, Indiana State started slowly in Sunday’s game, as the home side built a seven-point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Governors extended their lead to double-digits late in the second before four Sycamores combined for a 10-2 run as the Trees faced a four-point deficit at the break. Allen and Prackett combined for 15 points in the third quarter as Indiana State went ahead with 10 minutes to play. The Trees extended their lead to 59-51 early in the fourth, but fell apart late as Austin Peay escaped with a win on its home court.

Bench production continued to be a positive trend for the Blue and White, as Indiana State had three in double-figures off the bench and finished with 48 bench points.

Indiana State’s three-game road trip concludes Wednesday morning when the Sycamores visit SIU Edwardsville for an 11 a.m. tip.
