Following a season that saw him lead the BYU Cougars to an 11-2 record, quarterback Jake Retzlaff now finds himself with a future filled with questions.

Retzlaff decided to withdraw from BYU after it was revealed he was possibly facing a seven-game suspension for violating the school’s honor code. The violation came to light after Retzlaff was accused of rape in June. While the case itself was dismissed, Retzlaff did admit to having premarital sex, which is where the violation of the honor code comes into play.

With college football a little over a month away from kicking off, On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Friday that the market for Retzlaff is a bit complicated. Although he’s coming off a season that saw him throw for 20 touchdowns and be named All-Big Honorable Mention, the timing of Retzlaff looking for a new school may prevent programs from taking the chance.

Something a Group of Five coach expressed to Nakos, despite being interested in Retzlaff.

“It’s a really tough time to bring in another quarterback,” said the coach. “We have to get him admitted to school, he has to learn the playbook. But Jake can elevate our room. We also open camp in less than two weeks.”

Regardless of where he goes, On3 confirmed that he’ll be doing so as a walk-on in order to be eligible for what will be his final season of college football.

Week 0 of college football is slated for Aug. 23, with Week 1 taking place the following week.
