ELKHART — Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Coach Niele Ivey will join the Elkhart community in a conversation focused on health as part of the fourth annual Leroy Robinson week Aug. 10-17.

The Health, Wellness, and Mental Fitness Community Conversation is produced by the Elkhart Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo. Ivey is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Tolson Center for Community Excellence, 1320 Benham Ave., Elkhart. The event will be a combination of conversation and Q&A with Ivey.

“Students these days are dealing with a lot of things,” said Elkhart Black Expo President Robert Taylor. “Sometimes, as parents and even community advocates, (we) never face or even know how to deal with (it). We want to provide community resources to be able to guide all of our children and who better to ask than someone from right here in our community that we all look up to.”

Niele Ivey was named the Notre Dame women’s basketball head coach in 2020, taking over for Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame and longtime head coach Muffet McGraw.

Ivey helped lead Notre Dame to its first national championship in 2001 when the Fighting Irish took down UConn and Purdue on the way to the title. She averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 steals during the run. Ivey is 117-38 in her career as the Irish’s head coach, leading Notre Dame to an ACC Tournament title and four-consecutive trips to the Sweet 16.

This past season, Ivey and the Fighting Irish excelled through a difficult nonconference schedule and were ranked No. 1 in February before dropping out of the NCAA Tournament with a 28-6 record.

Ivey is also the mother of NBA Basketball player Jaden Ivey of the Detroit Pistons.

Fresh off coaching the United States to the U19 FIBA World Cup Championships in Brno, Czech Republic, Ivey is out on the recruiting trail for Notre Dame’s women’s basketball.

This event is free to all students and $20 for adults. Admission tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com.
