Undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and trainer, Glover Teixeira, laughed off Khamzat Chimaev’s recent remarks.
The Russian native made headlines earlier this week, after he claimed that he will beat both Pereira, and Teixeira, together. Well, those comments didn’t necessarily go ignored once they reached the camp of “Poatan.”
“Chimaev gotta fight ‘Poatan,’” said Teixeira, as he hit the heavy bag in a social media post. “If he fights that guy (Pereira), I’ll bet my house on it. I’m retired Chimaev, but I’m around. You mess with me in the lobby of the hotel, anywhere you see me. You mess with me, I’ll snatch the life right out of you man.”
Pereira vs. Chimaev in a grappling match?
Chimaev (15-0) has emerged as the new kingpin at 185 pounds. He defeated Dricus Du Plessis for the UFC middleweight title by unanimous decision at UFC 319 in August.
However, the undisputed UFC middleweight champion also has an established background as a Freestyle wrestler, where he previously compiled a 24-0 record in the Swedish Wrestling Federation. And the two-division UFC champion Pereira (13-3) is determined to challenge Chimaev in one of his strongest assets.
“Let’s fight in your area, let’s fight in grappling,” said Pereira. “UFC is doing BJJ, right? Let’s do that then. Let’s make it happen. I don’t even know how much I’ll make. Good money though. You know who I am. The money is good. That money will be donated 100% to charity. That work on you? Chama.”
It didn’t take long for Chimaev to answer the callout, as he responded with social media posts directed at both Teixeira, and Pereira.
“Lets go, easy money.” responded Chimaev.
