Just about 12 hours before the long-distance shootout tips off, the WNBA announced that Lexie Hull will step in for her injured teammate Clark on Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Clark removed herself from on-court All-Star activities after a groin injury spoiled the final week of her sophomore season’s first half. She left the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s victory against Connecticut in Boston, and was held out of Wednesday’s showdown in New York entirely with the same ailment. Clark will also not partake in Saturday’s main event, which features a team bearing her name and selections.

Hull was perhaps the most appropriate choice to step in for Clark in the 3-point showdown, being that she’s obviously already in town. She also ranks fourth on the current WNBA leaderboard in 3-point percentage at 46.8 percent and leads all women with a minimum of 100 attempts in the same category in the last two seasons (.470).

She’s averaging a career-best 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds in 23 appearances, including 18 starts, amidst a rollercoaster first half for the Fever (12-11). The pre-All-Star slate has featured a Commissioner’s Cup Title (which saw them upset current WNBA top seed Minnesota) and some early issues like Clark and Sophie Cunningham’s injury absences and the early departure of DeWanna Bonner, who spent nine games in Indianapolis before returning to Phoenix.

With her entry, Hull joins a star-studded three-point batch that features defending champion Allisha Gray (Atlanta) and Sabrina Ionescu (New York), who is making her first appearance in the event since her record-breaking showing in the 2023 edition in Las Vegas. The field is rounded out by Kelsey Plum (Los Angeles) and rookie Sonia Citron (Washington).
