This season Exeter have started well – winning two of their opening four games.

Their only loss has come to reigning champions Gloucester-Hartpury, but the Chiefs sit third in the table ahead of the visit of Sale Sharks at the weekend.

McGoverne, who became Exeter’s record points scorer earlier this season, said the English top flight is one of the best women’s leagues in the world.

“What I love here is that we get so many more games and you’re facing so many different internationals from all around the world.

“I’ve always said that the coolest thing about being here is if you’re not playing internationally you wouldn’t get that chance to play with and against all those people.

“I think it’s improved my rugby a lot, and it’s just so much fun playing every week.

“There’s much more games and I think also the population here and the fans get behind women’s rugby so much, especially after the Women’s World Cup.

“You’ve seen the Prem competition go like leaps and bounds since last year, so it’s really exciting to be over here right now.”
