LOCAL COLLEGES: Blugold women earn 9th straight win

MARSHALL, Texas – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 53-41 at Ornelas Gymnasium on Tuesday during the final day of the ETBU Holiday Tournament.

UWEC has won nine straight games.

The Blugolds secured the win with a strong defensive performance, forcing 22 turnovers and swiping 11 steals. Capitalizing on these opportunities, they scored 26 paint points.

The Blugolds led 26-24 lead at the half before expanding their lead to 40-33 entering the final quarter.

In the final quarter, Reanna Hutchinson hit a clutch 3-pointer late in the game before UWEC iced the game at the line.

Olivia Witkowski led the Blugolds with 11 points and collected eight rebounds. Hutchinson and Kyla Overskei scored 10 points apiece for UW-Eau Claire.

UWEC holds a 10-1 overall record. Mary Hardin-Baylor stands at 4-11 on the season.

The Blugolds will begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play when they host UW-Stevens Point on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center in Eau Claire. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

Blue Devils roll past Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The UW-Stout women’s basketball team closed out 2025 with a dominant non-conference win, defeating Loras College 75-51 on Tuesday at the Stoltz Sports Center.

The Blue Devils built an early lead and never looked back to improve to 9-2 in non-conference play.

Stout jumped out to a commanding 22-6 advantage in the first quarter en route to the win.

Brooklynn Birt paced UW-Stout with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Julia Rybacki finished with 15 points and two steals, while Mary Berg stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, five assists, and five steals.

Grace Schisel chipped in nine points and three assists off the bench, and Maraya Wiltrout added six points and five rebounds.

As a team, Stout dominated the glass 43-21, scored 48 points in the paint, and tallied 22 points off 21 Loras turnovers.

The Blue Devils return to action in the new year with WIAC play, traveling to UW-Platteville on Saturday.
