CHARLESTON, S.C. — A hot start carried High Point University past Charleston Southern 87-66 in Big South Conference women’s basketball Wednesday in the CSU Field House.
Macy Spencer scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Panthers (19-2 overall, 8-0 conference), who have won nine in a row. Nevaeh Zavala added 15 points and five rebounds.

Brecken Snotherly had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Dom Nesland contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds, Anna Hager had 10 points and Aaliyah Collins had eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
High Point shot 47% from the field for the game — including 63% in the first quarter. It made 14 of 30 shots from outside — including 4 of 7 in the opening quarter. The Buccaneers shot 32% for the game and 20% in the first.
The Panthers went on a 19-3 run in the first to lead by 19 and stretched their advantage to 27 in the second before taking a 45-25 lead into halftime. Their lead hovered comfortably near 20 throughout the second half.
Tyonna Bailey scored 25 points for Charleston Southern (6-15, 4-4).

High Point is scheduled to host Presbyterian on Saturday at 7 p.m.
HPU TRACK ATHLETES EARN CONFERENCE HONORS
CHARLOTTE — High Point University’s Ashlyn Giles, Kendall Hicks and Ricardo Montes de Oca are among this week’s Big South Conference indoor track and field athletes of the week following strong showings at the Hokie Invitational.
On the women’s side, Giles was Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, while Hicks was selected Freshman of the Week for the first time. On the men’s side, Montes de Oca was named Field Athlete of the Week.
Giles placed second with her 15.97m throw in the women’s shot put, marking just 0.01m shy of her record-breaking throw last week at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

Hicks posted a 7.63 run in the women’s 60m, placing fifth overall. She also ran a 24.74 time in the women’s 200m, placing fifth in that race as well. Both runs were personal bests for the freshman.
Montes de Oca reached a height of 5.57m for his vault this past weekend, placing second in the men’s pole vault event.
BIXLER JOINS HPU WOMEN’S LACROSSE STAFF
HIGH POINT — Darla Bixler has joined the High Point University women’s lacrosse staff as the Director of Operations.
Bixler, formerly Darla Poulin, played for the Panthers from 2015 to 2018 before joining Lyndsey Boswell’s staff as an assistant coach from 2019 to 2023.

She had 93 goals and 40 assists in 52 games for High Point. She tallied 55 goals and 24 assists in the 2017 season and helped lead High Point to its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory against Towson.
In 2017, she was named the HPU Athletic Department’s Breakthrough Athlete of the Year. As a player and coach, Bixler helped the Panthers win nine Big South Conference championships.
