There is no doubt that Lorenzo Musetti is one of the players who have risen to the highest level in recent months, having finally found confidence and having improved from all points of view. The young Italian ace had already shown flashes of his talent when he was very young, but he lacked that consistency during the season that distinguishes excellent players from true champions.
The most attentive fans certainly remember when he forced a legend like Novak Djokovic into the fifth set in the round of 16 of the 2021 Roland Garros, in an edition that ended with the triumph of the Serbian veteran at the end of a run full of difficulties.
The start of 2025 has not been extraordinary for Musetti, who has also had some injuries, but his level has risen exponentially when the red clay season began. The star from Carrara has reached at least the semifinals in all Masters 1000 on this surface and only the world number 2 prevented him from winning his first Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, where he delighted the crowd with truly spectacular tennis.

The current Top 10 player also reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, where he had to retire due to a muscle problem during the battle against Alcaraz on the iconic Philippe Chatrier.
That injury affected Lorenzo's preparation for the Wimbledon Championships, where he stopped already in the first round not being at the top of his shape. He did not express his best tennis even in Washington last week, suffering the comeback of the British ace Cameron Norrie.
In addition to being very talented, Musetti is one of the very few top players with the one-handed backhand. In an interview ahead of the Toronto Masters 1000, he was asked if this shot represents an advantage or disadvantage in current tennis.
"On red clay I have a little more time to defend and recover the court, but on faster surfaces it's harder. Being a one-handed backhand has many disadvantages nowadays," replied the Italian.
